Collects Discrediting Archive against the President, Politicians and Journalists
A structure, functioning like a private Ministry of the Interior and having rich archives, works at the “Spartak” swimming complex in one of the capital’s residential districts, i. e. “Lozenets”. The impression of a true extramilitary formation becomes stronger by the presence of a striking security guard group, cruel and armed; it guards the private site, which is Alexey Petrov’s property – a DANS officer and personal advisor of the chief of the Agency, Petko Sertov. In the premises, where there used to be masseur’s services, rooms for relaxation and stores some time ago, we find a secret section now. Files appear on metal shelf systems, arranged in alphabetical order.
They contain personal data and discrediting materials about journalists, politicians and even about the Bulgarian President of State, Georgi Parvanov. Information concerning their families, financial status, relations to people and companies, weak points and conflicts – every piece of it is filed into the private card-index, and in the opinion of people, who are well acquainted with it, this one is better, it surpasses the archive of our Secret Services even from the time of the former National Security Agency in respect to some indicators. Data has been provided by illegal phone tapping and keeping under observation. And it does not happen by chance, for the reason that the chief of the illegal structure is none other than the ex-colonel and deputy director of the National Security Service, Nachev. Some time ago the executive body of the Ministry of the Interior gave him some pieces of advice to retire without causing too much of a stir. The reason for that was the fact that they have discovered too many of his contacts to be not regulated, with representatives of the shady business and with apparent criminals as well. He was immediately appointed at a position in the structures of the ex-baret, Alexey Petrov. Nachev took up putting into order in Petrov’s archive system and spying centre already established for collecting of compromises against famous Bulgarians in order to manipulate them – it is an activity, forbidden by law. Former high officials of the Ministry of the Interior helped him and they were attached to different of Alexey Petrov’s companies and given big payments as people taken on the staff. In this way he recompensed them for the services he was rendered before that, while they were part of the State Secret Services. The favour most often done was to take out and make copies of secret documents concerning the national security and referring to various people, well-known politicians and foreign diplomats even. That was the way how the private Ministry of the Interior got a detailed list of security officers and representatives of partner services to the embassies of country-members of the EU in Sofia. The list was enlarged with workings-out of the Bulgarian counter-espionage in respect to the following lines: Turkey, NATO and the ex-country members of the USSR. Plans and operation analyses of our services against foreign businessmen, who invested in Bulgaria, have also been kept in the underground archive at “Spartak” swimming pool. The ones, that used to have greater importance and still have it, are those which contain information collected on Michael Chorny’s degree of pervasion in different structures of the Bulgarian economy, as well as concerning the people who let secret information out to him.
However, Nachev and Petrov were most proud of the file of record of the Mayor of Sofia, Boyko Borisov. “We have complete details about his “Hungarian” period, when he was connected to the traffic of stolen automobiles and he was kept under observation by the Hungarian Services”, Petrov boasted. They also bragged that they knew about his cooperation to the elimination of Tsvetan Tsvetanov, ex-chairman of “Zashtita”, and many other things, too. Petrov declared recently that he could take it out of Borisov in the pre-elections campaign using the documents he possessed. Promises of that kind got the credit of the governing coalition to his side. Petrov guaranteed to Sertov, his new boss, total denunciation of the leader of the political formation Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, for whom he had sex compromises even. They touched on Borisov’s affairs with famous women, among who some journalists from bigger media could be distinguished. Have not we decided it firmly, have not we smashed him. “When the proper moment comes, we will strike the final blow on him”, Petrov and Nachev threatened.
The same threats were also uttered to politicians like Ivan Kostov, Plamen Yurukov, Yane Yanev, Plamen Mollov, Krasimir Karakachanov and others.
The pearl in Alexey Petrov’s crown of archives was the information collected in concern to the President Georgi Parvanov. They were kept at a special place and only Nachev had access to them. All sorts of discrediting materials were gathered. Part of them was obligingly “provided” by officers in the National Security Service, who were responsible as personal guard for the Head of State’s security. The files contained detailed report on Parvanov’s meetings with his favourite oligarchs Valentin Zlatev, Krasimir Gergov, Georgi Gergov and the owners of the “Peshtera” winery leading, and many others as well. There were also plenty of recordings made by the guards and for which Petrov payed lavishly. The President had two secret lodgings in Sofia. There he used to have his meetings with some of his mistresses while at the same time his wife thought that he was at the Boyana residence of the Minister Emiliya Maslarova. Some other people also played the role of mediators in Parvanov’s love affairs and their participation was in “providing him passage” for action. They got especially active when arranging his meetings with Vesela Kyuleva, who arrived from Vienna because she settled down there after the scandalous giving birth of a child to a “Levski” FC football player. Actually, Petrov had another version for the origin of that child; namely, that his “author” was someone else and most probably – in his opinion it was the resident of 2 “Dondukov” street.
There also appeared detailed photographic material on Parvanov’s love affair with the singer Mariana Popova, who tried to hide it in an unprecedented and absurd interview for the “Trud” newspaper.
However, Nachev and Petrov secured themselves with compromising information against their current patrons as well – the circles around Sergey Stanishev and Petko Sertov. It came out that some time ago Sertov worked for one of Petrov’s firms. Matters were quite hotter and spicier there; there was information about meetings between people from those circles abroad and even a CD containing a recording of their participation in sex orgies with mixed companies. A close advisor to the Prime Minister distinguished himself with exclusive virtuoso performances. Those files guaranteed the Nachev-Petrov’s tandem the security needed after the elections, in case Stanishev drew back his shelter of support and protection over them.
One of the last actions, concerning filling the archive and espionage, was the call on the publishers of the “Weekend” newspaper to “a conversation” at the “Spartak” swimming pool. They were threatened directly that they would be “smashed” if they continued writing and publishing anything in relation to Alexey Petrov. As a result from the threats uttered, the next issue of the newspaper gave out an official apology to Petrov about materials already published and trusting almost implicitly in a source, too. Meanwhile they received the “piece of advice” to focus on the campaign against the President and his love saga with the sweet Mariana Popova. It turned out to be a piece of cake because Popova was so labile that she shared all over the place about her relationship with the Head of State.
The really interesting issue appeared to be the compromising information about Parvanov’s relations to the businessman in gun trading, Nikolay Gigov. Petrov and Nachev kept in cash-box evidence that proved the distribution of commissions adding up to a total of millions of euro – money earned from transactions between the Ministry of the Army and French producers of helicopters and corvettes. Our Services came across bank transactions and found out some bank accounts of the President abroad. The Prime Minister Stanishev had some, too. A few weeks ago Gigov provided 75 millions of euro only for the buying of two French vessels from Bulgaria. The bargain was signed by Nikola Sarkozi and Sergey Stanishev in Paris. However, Parvanov was regarded to be Gigov’s patron and he rescued him on a couple of occasions from the Services working out his file of record because they had already discovered his participation in the synthetic drugs and weapon production.
The ex-Minister of the Interior, Rumen Petkov, was not skipped either. He was considered to be close to Alexey Petrov but the latter secured himself by having enough discrediting materials against the politician from Pleven, especially in concern to the murder of one of the co-owners of the “Rostov’ hotel – his name was Konov, and someo materials applying to big bargains in the city and bomb assaults also, in which the name of Petkov might be involved in as the one who ordered them.
While you are reading these lines, Alexey Petrov’s close people positively take the many-volumed archive out of the basements at “Spartak” swimming pool. The reason for that is not to be found in the legal actions of the Bulgarian services but in the outright warnings of English and American people. For quite a long time they have been giving voice to their discontent with the fact that the Ministry of the Interior and politicians from top levels keep their eyes closed at the outrages of some private secret service structures – the relevant example is Alexey Petrov’s one. We say “some” because Petrov is not the only one collecting and keeping information massive with discrediting data. Though, the Nachev-Petrov case was absolutely “brazen”, as the partner services defined it last week in concern to the illegal formations functioning. They had even come across a list of people, who to be racketeered or used as a means for achieving certain influences in different business sectors.
Information on attempts made on journalists, media, businessmen and politicians’ lives was sent to Washington and it would be included in the annual report of the State Department. Brussels was also signalled on the secret service outrages of the extramilitary structures, governed by the businessman and DANS officer Alexey Petrov.
